The first week of last October we said goodbye to our Phoebe Lucille. I can still see her sweet, chubby little feet in those pink, sparkly sandals. The first week of this October, we will welcome baby Fair #5 into our family. Will it be a girl? I don’t know, I just used some of Phoebe’s baby doll shoes for the photo 🙂 This might be the only authentic “We’re expecting!” message you read today on April Fools…but I assure you, it’s no joke. Looking forward to what’s ahead for our family.

About Amey Fair

I am Amey Fair, wife to Nathan, and home-educating Mom to Benjamin (9), Averic (7), Deacon (4) and Phoebe (2) . Phoebe was diagnosed with a rare childhood malignant brain cancer called Atypical Teratoid Rabdoid Tumor on January 1, 2012. She had complete resection surgery to remove the tumor on January 4th and began chemotherapy using the Dana Farber protocol on January 26th. A few weeks ago I was sleeping in the chair next to Phoebe's bed in the hospital when I heard her little voice drawing me out of sleep. It was 3 am and it took me a minute to shake off the slumber. "Mommy I'm a mean girl" I thought she said. "No Phoebe, you're a nice girl!" I replied. "No Mommy, I'm a MIRACLE!" Phoebe said. "I'm a MIRACLE, I'm a MIRACLE, I'm a MIRACLE!" she continued on. My tears welled up and spilled over as she made her declaration. Phoebe doesn't know the word "miracle" nor the concept, she's only 2. It was as if the Lord was speaking through her like a prophetic utterance. She fell right back to sleep and I sat there awake, lingering in the magical moment. Less than 40 children are diagnosed with Phoebe's type of cancer in the U.S. each year. This is why it's called "ATYPICAL Teratoid Rabdoid Tumor". So, I have titled this blog in honor of Phoebe, our "Atypical Miracle". We are YWAM'ers, serving in missions through Youth With A Mission since 1998. Before returning to the states 1 year ago, we lived near Guadalajara Mexico for 3 years. It was during our year of agricultural missions training in Waco, TX that Phoebe began exhibiting symptoms from the pressure of the tumor on her brain. Weight loss, lethargy, extreme thirst and vomiting were her symptoms. We have been granted sabbatical during this time to focus on Phoebe's intensive chemotherapy treatment and are renting a home in Dallas near the Children's hospital where Phoebe is being treated. Like the woman who touched the hem of Jesus' robe in Luke chapter 8, we cling to Him, knowing that He is Phoebe's healer. If we can just touch Him, be near Him, bring Phoebe to Him each day, we have hope. He is our hope. Thank you for coming along on this journey with our family. It's therapeutic for me to write it all out, and in so doing, I hope God will use it for His glory.

  21. What a beautiful gift from God! If it is a sweet baby girl, you should consider naming her “Lucy”. The name Lucy means “light” or “bringer of light” And this sweet baby will be a new bright light for your beautiful family. It would honor her big sister. Good luck with your pregnancy…My little LUCY and I pray for you all often (all the way from Louisiana!)

  22. Hooray!!! Congratulations and prayers for you! Thank you for continuing to share your faith-filled journey will all of us near and far. Love and hugs.

  26. Congratulations!!!! What a gift. Another beautiful child to love. Phoebe has a litlle brother or sister she can adore from above.
I wanted that possibility myself after my son passed. I was 43 then. My age didn’t scare me but not possible because my husband had a vasectomy that we both made a decision to early in our marriage. See at the time I had three beautiful young children and I had gotten pregnant. Didnt feel right from the very start. I ended with a miscarriage that left me very week and sick. I had lost so much blood I feared I could have lost my life. So we made a quick decision that I and my husband regret to this day. A year later I longed for another chil. I was 32. Now my home feels empty and my youngest son I feel is lonely. I’m so blessed to have him I thank God every day for him. But there is an emptiness……thank you for sharing Amy. You are amazing!!

  27. Ahhhh congratulations Fair family!!! The is wonderful news. So excited for you and happy to anticipate and welcome your newest into the world. Praying and rejoicing with you! Yippee!!!

  28. What wonderful news! Sending smiles, hugs, and love from Breckenridge, Colorado. God is SO good and His mercy is so evident in this amazing gift of new life. I am happy beyond words for all of you. Thank you Father!!

  29. sending you joyfilled awe and wonderment with this news! may this pregnancy be filled with healthy expectancy as you await this new life. I imagine that Phoebe smiles upon this little that she knows from the very beginning, already knowing her little brother or sister to be! God bless each of you!

  30. What splendid news. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away! Blessed be the name of the Lord. LaNell

  31. CONGRATULATIONS. I AM SO SO SO HAPPY FOR YOU AND NATHAN AND YOUR FAMILY. WHAT A BLESSING!!! PRAYING FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR LITTLE ONE. THANK YOU FATHER.
