Morning Update CMC Dallas

Feeling (and looking) like I got run over by a train this morning after our night in the ER. Phoebe got platelets, potassium, and extra fluids. She had some irregular heart rhythms that were disconcerting and her heart rate is still high. Her blood pressure is a little on the low side and she is doing a lot of sleeping. Please continue to pray for Phoebe as she is not out of the woods yet.

About Amey Fair

I am Amey Fair, wife to Nathan, and home-educating Mom to Benjamin (9), Averic (7), Deacon (4) and Phoebe (2) . Phoebe was diagnosed with a rare childhood malignant brain cancer called Atypical Teratoid Rabdoid Tumor on January 1, 2012. She had complete resection surgery to remove the tumor on January 4th and began chemotherapy using the Dana Farber protocol on January 26th. A few weeks ago I was sleeping in the chair next to Phoebe's bed in the hospital when I heard her little voice drawing me out of sleep. It was 3 am and it took me a minute to shake off the slumber. "Mommy I'm a mean girl" I thought she said. "No Phoebe, you're a nice girl!" I replied. "No Mommy, I'm a MIRACLE!" Phoebe said. "I'm a MIRACLE, I'm a MIRACLE, I'm a MIRACLE!" she continued on. My tears welled up and spilled over as she made her declaration. Phoebe doesn't know the word "miracle" nor the concept, she's only 2. It was as if the Lord was speaking through her like a prophetic utterance. She fell right back to sleep and I sat there awake, lingering in the magical moment. Less than 40 children are diagnosed with Phoebe's type of cancer in the U.S. each year. This is why it's called "ATYPICAL Teratoid Rabdoid Tumor". So, I have titled this blog in honor of Phoebe, our "Atypical Miracle". We are YWAM'ers, serving in missions through Youth With A Mission since 1998. Before returning to the states 1 year ago, we lived near Guadalajara Mexico for 3 years. It was during our year of agricultural missions training in Waco, TX that Phoebe began exhibiting symptoms from the pressure of the tumor on her brain. Weight loss, lethargy, extreme thirst and vomiting were her symptoms. We have been granted sabbatical during this time to focus on Phoebe's intensive chemotherapy treatment and are renting a home in Dallas near the Children's hospital where Phoebe is being treated. Like the woman who touched the hem of Jesus' robe in Luke chapter 8, we cling to Him, knowing that He is Phoebe's healer. If we can just touch Him, be near Him, bring Phoebe to Him each day, we have hope. He is our hope. Thank you for coming along on this journey with our family. It's therapeutic for me to write it all out, and in so doing, I hope God will use it for His glory.

  1. Praying and praying for you Phoebe! Amey, praying God will flood you with strength to make it through this day.

    1 John 4:4
You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

  2. Amey and Nathan, thank you for all the updates. We at Bono Baptist near Godley, Tex. have been praying for Phoebe and ALL of you since the beginning and will continue to do so. 3. Amey & Nathan,
Our thoughts and prayers are continually with you and your family. You are so strong. God Bless you and keep you through all this. We love you in Christ and pray for his grace & strength along with healing for Phoebe.

  4. Holy Father, we beg that you wrap this little baby in your loving arms. Cover Phoebe and her family with the grace and peace that comes from your love. Help them each find the power and strength to continue to battle against the evil that lurks in her precious body.
Everyday we are blessed with witnessing the glory that is your creation, we praise and worship your perfect vision, and beg that you give Phoebe the gift of seeing your perfection another day and that she grow to spread the word of your perfect love and salvation.
In your holy name, we praise and worship you.

  5. Amey, we continue to keep you all in our prayers but have “doubled up” since your post yesterday. Praying also for your continued strength during these times and that you will soon be back in your home with everyone feeling good!

  6. Amey–I am praying for you and Phoebe and for all of your family. May God just wrap you all up in His arms as only He can. Us mere mortals can love you and pray for you~~wishing we could just do more~~words seem so inadequate, just know you all are loved and prayed for. marilyn from Tennessee

  7. -praying for Phoebe tonight! I’ve been following your blog ever since Jeff & Stacie from church told us about Phoebe. I think about your family often and will keep praying.

  8. You can do it. We are never given more than we can handle. I know this for a certainty given personal, tragic events in the past few days. Phoebe is here, she is beautiful, and she was given you as parents for a blessed reason. Stand strong. You will be okay. Much love and prayers.

  9. Of course, a multitude of prayers for Phoebe and y’all are going up to heaven every day…but today you asked for more, so more you’ll get. God loves prayers…they’re fragrance in the breezes of heaven. God loves Phoebe…she’s a precious light in His eye.All of us mothers out here stand in awe of what you’ve been given to handle, Amey, and we all stand in awe of how you’ve been handling it all. However, do not ever be ashamed or feel weak if you feel overwhelmed…we all understand, we love you and more than all that, GOD LOVES YOU, AMEY. He has you tightly in His grasp.
    Hugs and love and prayers,
Suzy <– wearing my Phoebe's Prayer Warrior bracelet 24/7
