Asking For Prayer

Standard

Asking for prayers for Phoebe; she is having headaches that won’t abate with Tylenol and that makes me nervous of course. Her labs checked out fine this morning, and I was really hoping that the pain would be easily pinpointed with an electrolyte issue. Unfortunately the headaches are unexplained. Her oncologist said no need to worry yet since there are a great many things that cause headaches, but that doesn’t offer much solace to a brain tumor parent. Next MRI is due August 5th, but will be moved up if we don’t see improvement.

About Amey Fair

I am Amey Fair, wife to Nathan, and home-educating Mom to Benjamin (9), Averic (7), Deacon (4) and Phoebe (2) . Phoebe was diagnosed with a rare childhood malignant brain cancer called Atypical Teratoid Rabdoid Tumor on January 1, 2012. She had complete resection surgery to remove the tumor on January 4th and began chemotherapy using the Dana Farber protocol on January 26th. A few weeks ago I was sleeping in the chair next to Phoebe's bed in the hospital when I heard her little voice drawing me out of sleep. It was 3 am and it took me a minute to shake off the slumber. "Mommy I'm a mean girl" I thought she said. "No Phoebe, you're a nice girl!" I replied. "No Mommy, I'm a MIRACLE!" Phoebe said. "I'm a MIRACLE, I'm a MIRACLE, I'm a MIRACLE!" she continued on. My tears welled up and spilled over as she made her declaration. Phoebe doesn't know the word "miracle" nor the concept, she's only 2. It was as if the Lord was speaking through her like a prophetic utterance. She fell right back to sleep and I sat there awake, lingering in the magical moment. Less than 40 children are diagnosed with Phoebe's type of cancer in the U.S. each year. This is why it's called "ATYPICAL Teratoid Rabdoid Tumor". So, I have titled this blog in honor of Phoebe, our "Atypical Miracle". We are YWAM'ers, serving in missions through Youth With A Mission since 1998. Before returning to the states 1 year ago, we lived near Guadalajara Mexico for 3 years. It was during our year of agricultural missions training in Waco, TX that Phoebe began exhibiting symptoms from the pressure of the tumor on her brain. Weight loss, lethargy, extreme thirst and vomiting were her symptoms. We have been granted sabbatical during this time to focus on Phoebe's intensive chemotherapy treatment and are renting a home in Dallas near the Children's hospital where Phoebe is being treated. Like the woman who touched the hem of Jesus' robe in Luke chapter 8, we cling to Him, knowing that He is Phoebe's healer. If we can just touch Him, be near Him, bring Phoebe to Him each day, we have hope. He is our hope. Thank you for coming along on this journey with our family. It's therapeutic for me to write it all out, and in so doing, I hope God will use it for His glory.

  1. Amey. I remember you said she doesn’t remember to drink. Headaches come from lack of water also. Prqying it is that Prqying here in Atlanta.

  2. Praying for healing and peace! She is such a precious little girl and she seems to cheer others up with just her smile!

  3. Thinking of you and your family. Always do. I hope the headaches end up being something simple. I understand as a mother whom also has a brain tumour child- any headache symptom is scarey. Praying for her to have relief from them soon and all to be well.

  4. Phoebe, did you get too much sun, or too much wind, or too tired from that vacation? I pray that they find the cause of that headache and make it go away! God bless you, sweetie, and keep his arms around you and help you feel better! Hugs!

  5. I know as a Momma I would having the same thoughts. A sign I have been seeing a lot the past few weeks “if He brought you to it he will bring you through it!”. Praying for you, your family and sweet Phoebe.

  6. Praying for you. Peace for your mind (us mama types need that – its just in us to be concerned) and praying for relief from the headaches for that little warrior beside you. Love to your family and hoping you have a great summer!

  7. HI PHOEBE AND FAMILY,

I WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP PHOEBE AND YOUR FAMILY IN MY DAILY PRAYERS. JUST KNOW YOU ARE SURROUNDED BY THE LORD’S LOVE AND PRAYERS AND LOVE OF SO MANY LOVING AND CARING PEOPLE.

  8. Our Dear Heavenly Father, Please be with Phoebe and her family as they try to find out why Phoebe is having these headaches. Walk with them, Lord Jesus, and give them your comfort and peace. It is so scary so calm their fears as you relieve Phoebe of these headaches. We ask this in Your Precious Name and according to your will for Phoebe, Amen

  9. Sending love, well wishes and the comfort of knowing that Sweet Phoebe is where she has always been- in the Master’s Hands ☺

  11. Hi Amey,

Just a quick note to see how everyone is doing, especially Phoebe. Praying for God’s hand to cover you all with His healing and His grace and that He will strengthen you for everything that lies ahead. Praying that Phoebe’s health will continue to improve, day after day, and that her times of illness and recuperation are over for good.

Blessings on you and your lovely family!
