To Dallas

Standard

How quickly things can turn. Phoebe has been riddled with fever all night. She got up to 104.8 last night and is at 103.8 right now. Her pain has stepped up a notch and since hospice is not set up yet, we are headed to Dallas for morphine. Please pray for my girl, she is miserable..

About Amey Fair

I am Amey Fair, wife to Nathan, and home-educating Mom to Benjamin (9), Averic (7), Deacon (4) and Phoebe (2) . Phoebe was diagnosed with a rare childhood malignant brain cancer called Atypical Teratoid Rabdoid Tumor on January 1, 2012. She had complete resection surgery to remove the tumor on January 4th and began chemotherapy using the Dana Farber protocol on January 26th. A few weeks ago I was sleeping in the chair next to Phoebe's bed in the hospital when I heard her little voice drawing me out of sleep. It was 3 am and it took me a minute to shake off the slumber. "Mommy I'm a mean girl" I thought she said. "No Phoebe, you're a nice girl!" I replied. "No Mommy, I'm a MIRACLE!" Phoebe said. "I'm a MIRACLE, I'm a MIRACLE, I'm a MIRACLE!" she continued on. My tears welled up and spilled over as she made her declaration. Phoebe doesn't know the word "miracle" nor the concept, she's only 2. It was as if the Lord was speaking through her like a prophetic utterance. She fell right back to sleep and I sat there awake, lingering in the magical moment. Less than 40 children are diagnosed with Phoebe's type of cancer in the U.S. each year. This is why it's called "ATYPICAL Teratoid Rabdoid Tumor". So, I have titled this blog in honor of Phoebe, our "Atypical Miracle". We are YWAM'ers, serving in missions through Youth With A Mission since 1998. Before returning to the states 1 year ago, we lived near Guadalajara Mexico for 3 years. It was during our year of agricultural missions training in Waco, TX that Phoebe began exhibiting symptoms from the pressure of the tumor on her brain. Weight loss, lethargy, extreme thirst and vomiting were her symptoms. We have been granted sabbatical during this time to focus on Phoebe's intensive chemotherapy treatment and are renting a home in Dallas near the Children's hospital where Phoebe is being treated. Like the woman who touched the hem of Jesus' robe in Luke chapter 8, we cling to Him, knowing that He is Phoebe's healer. If we can just touch Him, be near Him, bring Phoebe to Him each day, we have hope. He is our hope. Thank you for coming along on this journey with our family. It's therapeutic for me to write it all out, and in so doing, I hope God will use it for His glory.

  9. Amey, fever is one of the body’s ways of exhibiting fear. If you can hold on to the Peace that Passes All Human Understanding ~ which guards your heart and your mind ~ you may be able to quell Phoebe’s fear with the super-natural authority in the name of Jesus. (His super added to our natural!) Blessings as you go.

  10. I came upon your site a while back. I am so sorry to hear about your precious baby girl! She is so beautiful. I looked at your words just now and it broke my heart. We are praying for her and your family. As a mother it is so hard to see our babies in pain, I will pray for the pain and fever to cease and for God to do his works and take away this nasty cancer!

  25. I found out about Phoebe the day after she was diagnosed last year. Someone put her on a prayer list done by a wondeful man named Larry Kenada. He sends a daily verse and prayer request each day out to hundreds of people around the country. I live in Northern Cslifornia and was immediately drawn to this story. I share it with others asking them to pray for Phoebe and her family. Just know that you are loved and prayed for by many. God bless.

  26. Though we are ‘total strangers’, we are your ‘family’ in Christ. Your story has reached us, through some dear friends…so we came to the web to learn more about Phoebe. What an ‘atypical’ miracle she presently IS! We can’t imagine the pain, the ups, downs, and night terrors you’ve endured, much less what this little trooper has had to endure—It is obvious that you are NOT alone on this journey. The LORD Himself is with you- with her! And He is using this precious baby for His Glory– Just uniting the Body of Christ in intercessions, filling hearts with such compassion, exercising so much faith, tapping into His Grace…He IS being glorified. We KNOW healing will come. In His time and in His way. May your spirits find rest in His Strong and Constant Presence.- Carol and Dr. Gary Crossland and Nevaeh

  27. In God there is only heath, wealth, love, peace, harmony and perfect self expression so then there is no sickness, disease or anything negative. I know, with the state you as parents are it is difficult to see it. But if you seek God’s help to see Phoebe whole and healthy, speak over her -‘Phoebe’s body is now in perfect state of health by Divine right in perfect ways, under grace.’ you’ll see change begin to happen. And as a parent if you are carrying any resentment against anyone or any situation say this- God I surrender the burden of resentment (name of the person you’ve against or the situation) and I now go free. Keep affirming till you see light in the darkness. Be blessed!

  28. My family has been following you all the way through this journey, praying for all of you constantly. I am so heartbroken and pray that she finds comfort… Phoebe is a light in the darkness and I am certain know this world will be a lesser place without her.

  29. Lord, I don’t know the words to pray for this baby and her family. But that’s ok because you don’t need the words since you can search the hearts. Lord, my heart is just crying out to you: Please heal Phoebe in Jesus name. Amen.

  30. My husband and I are praying for Phoebe and your family. I am soooo sorry for all that she has had to indure. We pray for her that the time she has left that it will be spent as pain free, and healthy as possible. We are praying that she will get the pain relief she is in need of. Please know you are not alone in all of this. We are all here following her story and praying for a miracle.

God bless all of you. May the sun shine on all of you again soon. HUGS

  31. Nathan and Amey,

    Mike

  32. We’ve been quietly following and praying from afar for over a year. Little Phoebe and the faith and perseverance you show has inspired so many of us, yet we would all give it back in a heart beat. As a grown man, I cried on the way to work this morning thinking of you all. We pray for Phoebe’s comfort and God’s strength. Prayers from St. Louis.
